Inspiration: Mrs Eliot's Books

Here's an inspiring find – Mrs Eliot Books. Aren't they gorgeous? The retro prints, the vibrant colours and witty text on hinged wooden pieces are just my cup of tea! (Love the ceramics in the photos too!) She also does incredible cards and prints which I'm also featuring on Scissors + Paper Rock. Oh, and her fab blog can be found here.

The plot thickens...

just how do they work anyway?!!

If you read about my woes from yesterday when I tried to install a new comments system and ended up with no comments facility at all and losing my page settings, I have a bizarre addition to the story.... I just found it! It's fully installed and working a treat over on my other blog, Scissors + Paper Rock! It's all very strange - as you know, it's pretty clear when you're in your dashboard which blog you have selected and I'm sure I was working on 3 sheets, but... there you have it. Strange, hey?
Anyway, if you feel like indulging me, please pop over to Scissors + Paper Rock and leave a comment. If you can let me know how easy it is to use, what you think of it etc, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Smart Holiday

It's a public holiday and we're all a bit sniffly and unwell, so it's a TV day for us today! I love how, as the girls have got older, their TV viewing taste is so much closer to ours and we can enjoy the same shows. We have a big thing here for 1960s shows Gilligan's Island, the original Batman series, Green Acres, Bewitched and our absolute favourite... Get Smart! I absolutely love 99 - remember all those fabulous outfits she wore?
So off we go... the DVDs are out and we're about to have a bit of a Smart marathon.... would you believe??

More tedious admin I'm afraid... just checking to see if I've fixed the comments enabler...

What Have I Done...!?

Sorry guys... this blog is going to be a bit all over the place for a bit. I just tried to install a new comments thingy and... well, I have no idea what I did but I seem to have ended up with no new comments thingy AND lost all my settings... Life keeps giving me lessons on looking before I leap, but do you think I ever listen...?!  ;)  So, I'm slowly going through putting things back on my page again... doing penance for my leaping! Sorry if it's all over the place. Let me know if I've forgotten anything? (other than my brain, of course!)  :) K

Sunday Stash: Buckles

I love buckles - I mean, what an ingenious design, don't you think?! So simple but so effective. Above are some old ones I've found at markets etc and I think they're works of art. One day I'll do something with them - here's hoping!

Other Sunday Stashes can be found here.

100 Posts!

I've just realised that this is my 100th post – wow, has that come around quickly! I should have been more organised... a giveaway or something, but no. Sorry guys... Instead, I'm posting to say I have a dinner party tonight and I'm going to be cleaning and cooking all day! And to show you my table... I always do it first so that no matter how late I'm running at the end, it's done ;) and aside from the food, well, nothing else really matters, does it?

We just love having dinner parties. I know it's tres out of vogue but we don't care. It doesn't matter that you often don't get the 'return dinner'... actually, put like that, it sounds so structured and icky - not fun at all. I just love that relaxed, fun, quality time with people you really like. And yes, the setting may be a bit formal (but that's only because I'm anal and totally love the whole theatricality of a dinner party table!) Hope you all have a fabulous Saturday night with family friends good food and yummy wine :) We'll be having the slow-cooked lamb shanks with a delicious red!

Ari love

Ari Athans' new collection Letter Love

I'm so excited..!! I've just discovered the blog of someone I actually know! Ari is a local jewellery goddess right here in Brisbane. Take a 5km radius around central Bris and everyone you speak to knows Ari - her work is just sublime. If you want to check out her website go here and her blog you can find here.

MOVEMENT I

MOVEMENT II

MOVEMENT III

MOVEMENT IV

MOVEMENT V

It's so sad – Movement V is the final post from How We Say Hello. :( If you've been loving this wonderful blog as much as I have you might want to stop by and tell them how much they'll be missed. The good news is, Famapa and Sandra will continue to run their individual blogs and you can find them here and here. Above are their posts from this week... just gorgeous.

Friday Favourite

Postman's been + look what I received... a Kristen Doran tote from her new online shop and I so love it! This is her screenprint design Winter Nest - my absolute favourite. I know most of you are already familiar with Kristen's fabulous work, but just in case she's new to you, I've included some pics below from her shop, and her blog can be found here. Happy exploring!

My Creative Space

The creative space posts this week have an added layer - the great heart hunt. There are two in mine. No prizes for guessing, just a bit of fun :) To have a peek at all those taking part, or to play yourself, go to Kirsty's here.

My creative space has been a week in the making. We pruned a massive banksia on our footpath and the flowers were so incredible I decided to have a go at reproducing them on fabric. Above is kind of a pictorial following of the process. I'm really happy with the fabric print, but totally surprised and delighted with the happy accident that came out of it... On a whim, after I'd printed up a layer on fabric, I put some litho paper on the wet side of the stencil and gave it a rub. The print is in the sidebar – it looks like a starburst to me. I really like it.

Claire Stening

You'd think being such a terrible cook would mean a phobia for all things kitchen? Well, I would... but time and again I find myself totally seduced by images of this nature. How is it that a bowl of eggs or some cutlery can be so utterly exquisite? It's the form not the function I suppose :) If you'd like to see more of Claire Stening's work, her current exhibition in Brisbane can be viewed here.

Thinking about colour...

I've just finished cutting out a new screenprinting pattern and have started thinking about colour combinations. I love the orange with the grey and of course it would need a little bit of white to break it up, but I'm really loving the greens with the grey. Don't you just love looking at colour combinations?

P.S. (All these gorgeous colours are making me want to change my banner artwork... it's rather heavy looking, isn't it? Tell me what you think.....)
