Loving this fabulous video (via Hearted Girl) from Canadian ideas company Rethink.
I think I'll be viewing this again and again every time I feel 'stuck' ;) Very inspirational.

Inspiration: Eleanor Pritchard

This is she... the very talented Eleanor Pritchard... have you seen her stunning
weavings before? While I should really be crocheting, I've found myself mesmerised
by them lately.

It's strange that I haven't come across her work before seeing as she is so celebrated
in her native Britain and far abroad... Anyway, now that I have (finally) I do admit to
being completely smitten :)

And, of course, when I saw her studio I just wanted to live there! Isn't it amazing?

I love that her work comprises of strong geometric shapes and basic patterning.

There's a freshness to her designs... a kind of 'less is more' aesthetic carried
by bold colour combinations that highlight the design rather than smother it.

And she loves making cushions too, so she must be alright ;)
You can read more about Eleanor Pritchard and see more of her work on her
website and her blog.

Inspiration: Recycled/Repurposed
Love this! A recycling feature in the US Elle magazine.

Inspired

We found out yesterday that friends of ours have had a little girl. I saw her photo
and was suddenly inspired... Isn't it funny how that can happen? I instantly started
hooking some crochet bunting, making it up as I went along.

It'll be in the post today on its way to New York :) Welcome to the world Antonia!

Inspiration: Mr Dries VN
I've been crocheting madly here but my mind has been drifting to thoughts
of fabric. I'm itching to start screen printing again and have been dreaming
of different fabric designs.

These took my breath away this morning... Dries Van Noten's Spring 2012
collection. This man is the king of fabric design... his clothes are pretty good too ;)
The pics below are my favourites. You can see the whole collection here.

I have finished going through my two-year's worth of mags... the dining table is
now cleared... Time to start some screen printing I think :)
What do you have planned for the weekend?

Inspiration: Masha Rumyantseva
Collage is an enduring love for me and the work of Masha Rumyantseva is a
particular favourite. It's so open and witty, but she also employs a deft hand at
colour too that is always visually exciting.

Rumyantseva works as an illustrator for Russian magazines where she
mostly uses collage and ink drawings.

You can see more on Rumyantseva's Flickr Photostream. I found
her work via another fine collage artist Esra Dandin.

Inspiration: Helen Rodel
A few months ago now I saw this image on Evie's blog and discovered
the amazing crochet couture of Helen Rodel.

Needless to say it was love at first sight...

So innovative and fun...

I knew I had to try it. Stay tuned for Creative Space tomorrow to see my
crochet couture attempt in progress :)

There's a fabulous Vimeo clip of Rodel working on her collection here.
(For some reason, I can't get it to load here, sorry).
You can find her website here and Flickr photostream here.

Inspiration: Jenni Rope
I've just discovered an amazing Finnish artist, Jenni Rope, and have
lost hours looking through her incredible portfolio. She does everything!
Based in Helsinki, she exhibits internationally and runs Napa Books
and Gallery. Her works span painting, illustration, jewellery, animation,
publishing and fabric design (for Marimekkko, no less!).
Thanks to Renilde for introducing me to Jenni Rope's work :)

Inspiration: Sera Waters
I'm finding a lot of inspirational embroidery lately and have found myself sneaking
off to indulge in some stitchery when I should be doing other things.
off to indulge in some stitchery when I should be doing other things.
Adelaide-based Sera Waters is my latest inspiration for her meticulous use of
embroidery and blackwork, but also the quirky 'edge' to her subject matter too.
The 6 pieces below from Waters' "Butchering Series" are amazing examples
of blackwork, where a honeycomb-like patterning of stitches is used to create the
impression of shading and depth.

This is only the exhibited work from 2009. Waters has an amazing body of
work which you can see on her website... so many thoughtful and intriguing pieces.
She currently lectures in art history and theory at Adelaide Central School of Art
and at Adelaide University. I feel very envious of those lucky students, don't you? :)
