Tree Towels

I was just having a browse around the Finders Keepers blog and saw these little 
gems amongst their top picks for textiles... tree towels! Cute, don't you think?





They are by London-based graphic design duo, Pui Lee and Gemma Stanton, 
who produce goodies like these under the label Our Workshop. They have a 
graphic design business under the same label called Our Work and then a retail 
outlet called Our Shop.





Profits from their shop are put back into product development, which they call 
"a continual labour of love".





Well, I love them :)

Comme des Crochet

Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo has just released a limited 
edition selection of crocheted jumpers...





Who ever said crochet isn't cool :)

Inspiration: Jenni Rope

I've just discovered an amazing Finnish artist, Jenni Rope, and have 
lost hours looking through her incredible portfolio. She does everything! 


Based in Helsinki, she exhibits internationally and runs Napa Books 
and Gallery. Her works span painting, illustration, jewellery, animation, 
publishing and fabric design (for Marimekkko, no less!).

Early warning system...

I've been laughing to myself every time I see these posters. 

They're a web find from Etsy sellers Bexpert of nautical code

flags and their meanings. 

Maybe I have a deranged sense of humour, but 

don't you think they'd be hilarious t-shirts?

Nothing like clearly stating your intentions...

A different kind of Tour

Maybe it's because I've been watching the Tour de France every evening 

and, now that it's over, I want more of the excitement of new scenery... 

Whatever it is, I have itchy feet... I really want to set off on an adventure; 

explore a new city....

So I guess it's rather timely that I web-hopped upon this architectural 

wonder in Seville, Spain, completed in April 2011... Metropol Parasol.

Don't you just love the way it pops out from all the 

box shapes of the city's architect? 

 Designed by J.Mayer H Architects, it's part of  a re-development project for the 

Plaza de la Encarnacion, formerly an archeological site.

I just love it's organic form... 

As an entity in itself I find it so incredibly inspiring and uplifting.

Luckily for the locals it also has some functions with an archeological 

museum, a farmers market and bars and restaurants included in the mix ;)

Can't you just see yourself strolling through, or coming upon 

the parasols when wandering down a narrow laneway?

I haven't been to Seville since 1994... it's on the list now.

Fruity Trivets

When I was at Purl Soho in New York I put my name down on their mailing list and since then have been receiving their fabulous newsletter. They feature so many gorgeous yarns and books and patterns, but they also have an amazing 'how-to' each issue. 


So I thought I'd share the link (you can sign up for the emails on their site) and show one of their features which I love... the fruity trivets :)

Postmodern Grannies

With all the media about the 'craft boom' of late, I guess it's hardly surprising that craft has been appropriated by manufacturing. 

I saw this rug yesterday in a mag... yes, it's a rug, made of wool and linen but printed to look like a granny square blanket.

The rugs are by Kasthall designer, Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, who crocheted the design from leftover bits of yarn. The pattern was then transferred onto the rugs. She called the design Karin after her grandmother.

It is great that they love granny square blankets enough to use the design, but I'd prefer a hand crocheted granny blanket any day ;)

What do you think? Is this *wow* for you? Am I being too old-school?
