Yes please!

There's a workshop on offer by The People's Print at the V&A's approaching British
Design Season... The Great British Floral digital workshop.
They are going to show those lucky attendees a combination of hand craft and digital
techniques to create a floral pattern and print it on fabric.

I'm trying to keep very neutral here but I'm positively burning with envy...
I want to go! Unfortunately, I'm on the other side of the globe :(

If you happen to live nearby, you can register for the workshop by visiting
this site... and if you go, can you take loads of pictures and show all the fab
things you did.. please?

I'd love to see :)

Loving Phat Knits

Thanks for all the great comments on the Postmodern Granny. I do see what you mean... it is still fabulous regardless of its 'fakery'. But for me, my kids actually summed it up by quoting Mighty Boosh "Elements from the past and the future, combining to form something not quite as good as either!"

Anyway.... a new find for you. Something I think is totally fantabulous... Phat Knits.

Now this is what I call innovative and exciting... I guess it's still 'elements from the past and the future' but I think it really works. Gigantic knittery... I want! :)

They were specially created by artist Bauke Knottnerus (I have a feeling there's a pun in there somewhere!) for the Unravel exhibition at the MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerp, which runs until 14th August this year.

Can't you just see yourself lazing around on this?... oh and having the kids dive bomb you every five seconds of course... maybe I don't want it after all! ;)

365-Knit

I know this has done the rounds on some blogs already but I've just found some new (to me) images and had to share. Have you seen Siren Elise Wilhelmsen's 365 Knitting Clock? Don't you love it? I'm seriously coveting this wondrous thing :)

This fabulous creation measures time by length, knitting away the minutes and the hours, and finally producing a two meter long scarf after a year has passed.

So cool... I'm looking forward to seeing posts in the future featuring interiors filled with meters and meters of beautifully knitted yarn twirling around the furnishings :)

Norwegian-born Wilhelmsen graduated last year as an industrial designer from the University of Arts in Berlin and has already founded her own studio. You can see more of her designs on her website and blog.

p.s. sorry... forgot to mention... all my attempts to find where I could buy such a wonder were fruitless. I don't think they've been mass produced as yet... but yes, wouldn't it be perfect to actually own one? :)

Inspiration: mini moderns

I'm in a bit of a tizz at the moment... I just saw this wallpaper over at Print + Pattern and there's still quite a bit of hyperventilation going on in my chestal area ;)
This is the mini modern 2011 "Festival" collection, celebrating the 1951 Festival of Britain (another of my obsessive loves when the new wave of post-war British designers were given a platform to launch their works)... Anyway, it ticks all my boxes and I can see I'm going to have to exercise supreme control to not go to this little Shoppe and spend my monee* :)

*Actually, it's not so much the money, it's the fact that they only accept PayPal and I'm very cross with them at the moment for freezing fund transfers to Wikileaks.

There are other colours and many other fabulous products too. Visit the mini modern website for a peek :)

V&A Quilt lovin'

One of my favourite places in the world, and one of my favourite sites in the blogisphere, is the V&A. I love this place. That I used to work there (in the National Art Library) adds an extra thrill to the feeling of this being 'my place', if you know what I mean? I receive their monthly subscriber emails with updates of their exhibitions and what's in the shop etc. This month's update was a wonderful treat... the new exhibition is called Quilts 1700 - 2010 and, as always, they have an abundance of support merchandise in the V&A Shop which definitely comes under the 'covetable' banner :) They have books about quilting, how-to books and stationery, but best of all, the V&A have teamed up with Liberty Art Fabrics to offer a broad range of divine textiles for sale in either fat quarter, half meter or meterage lengths. Here are my favourites...

If you're lucky enough to be heading over to London in the next couple of months, the exhibition runs from 20th March till 4th July 2010. Find out more about the exhibition here.

Sorry if this reads like an ad for the V&A - my intention is only to share this wonderful site and show you some crafty things you might be interested in. Have a lovely weekend :)

I love post..

I do love it when I hear the postman's motorbike stop out the front and... well, linger. The longer he lingers the more likely there are lots of goodies being deposited in our mailbox :)
And so it is today.
He lingered and lingered... and I got more and more excited. Finally, he drove off and I raced down to the box. Yeah! Mail for me! A parcel from Mieke Willems in Belgium (*eek!*) and a parcel from Gretchenmist in Melbourne (*eek!*). I think it's funny how the parcels themselves are so treasured... I just love holding them for a minute and soaking in this delicious feeling :) So, what are they? An exquisitely embroidered pin cushion by Renilde from At-Swim-Two-Birds and a magnificently beautiful calendar by Belinda at Gretchenmist. Thank you both for your wonderful work!

If you haven't already discovered At-Swim-Two-Birds, Mieke Willems or Gretchenmist, please visit them - you will be so pleased you did!
