Our Creative Spaces: bubble and squeak week

I'm playing along with Our Creative Spaces this week - find more spaces here.

Actually, I've been quite sick with the flu this week, but I do have some bits and
bobs to show you... I over-printed the fabric failure, with mixed results again.
Thinking I should leave it till I'm feeling well again ;)

There's been some experimenting with making the long narrow shape cushion
with the crochet triangles....

I've also been toying with a new pixelated cushion in luscious dark shades....

Hope you've had a healthy and creative week? :)

Our Creative Spaces - MOF 1

Sometimes you know you have to do things, finish things... but it just doesn't
happen for a long time. Alisa mentioned having a month of finishing (MOF) a
couple of weeks ago and I decided it was long overdue for me too.

Do you remember this skirt? It's from way back in January. A crochet hexagon
make-it-up-as-you-go-along kind of skirt.

Of course, the problem with those kind of craftings is that they so often go
wrong. It's been sitting in my craft room for months now... ever since I realised
that my improvised waistband had made it about two sizes too big....

The original idea was to draw it together with some braid... but there's only so far you
can draw crocheted hexagons and the clumpy look was not good.

Then I decided my clumpy waistband would actually look quite sweet
as the hem edging...  so I flipped it around.

I remembered the amazing shirred fabric I bought on my trip to Chicago
(It was love at first sight. I knew it would come in handy!) ... and so it has :)

I cut off a strip less than the skirt width (winging it again) and sewed it to the
now-top of the skirt. There was a cheat factor here, though – I didn't have
any more of the yarn, so instead of crocheting half-hexes to make a straight
edge, I sewed along and cut off half of every second hex ;)

One finished crochet hexagon skirt with shirred fabric waistband :)
I can't believe how it all seemed to come together this time... serendipity.

Fabric-ating Silver

Silversmithing update: I'm in the process of making one of my bits of fabric-rolled silver look more like fabric. I've been cutting out little squares on the edges to replicate that irregular thread weave of cloth. I know what my teacher will say... "If you can't file and polish it, then you shouldn't cut it"... but I'm having fun :) Is it a break-the-rules-babe and try-something-new day for you too?

p.s. just read my stars for the week from Mr Crazy Brezsny (his horoscopes are always good fun if you're into that kind of thing!) Anyway, I thought they were kind of fitting for this post too :)

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20):
If I were you, Pisces, I'd make interesting fun your meme of the week. According to my reading of the astrological omens, you will be fully justified in making that your modus operandi and your raison d'etre. For best results, you should put a priority on pursuing experiences that both amuse you and captivate your imagination. As you consider whether to accept any invitation or seize any opportunity, make sure it will teach you something you don't already know and also transport you into a positive emotional state that gets your endorphins flowing.

Gingham Dress (part 2)

I've made another gingham dress... this time trying not to be too clever. The problem, for me, is that the fun of sewing is in the experimenting... so I couldn't resist having a go at working a decent gathered fall of fabric from a curved bodice ;) I had to sew and unpick three times, and even then it didn't quite work out, but I'm happy with my sundress.

I'm already planning my next sewing project... something in the air obviously. I just can't tear myself away from that machine at the moment :) Are you going sewing-mad lately? What's claiming your time?
