Bower bird is a term I'm very familiar with... I have mini collections of all kinds of things that fascinate me. Are you the same? I just see these things and instantly imagine a million ways that they could be applied to art works or incorporated into jewellery... So, I came across a market stall whilst in London with thousands of pieces of foreign currency in little plastic sleeves and, of course, I was in love! :) I can see a million applications again, but they also intrigue me as entities within themselves... what they say about how a nation perceives itself, or how it wants to be perceived, and also the exquisite detail in the engravings (I still see the metal plate in my mind!). What do you think? Intriguing, yes? :)
They are intriguing. I think they also look like play money but probably because they are unfamiliar to us. I love the colours of them.
I had a coin collection as a child. When we were travelling I collected all the coins we were left with and gave them to my young nephew. He was fascinated by them too and asked about the places and the people, accidentally learning at the same time! I love these notes. How could you not be intrigued by them, their colours, stories and metal plates. Love the nurse in the last photo. :)
I love how you look at the world. I had never really considered currency like that before, being terrible at all things to do with numbers, foreign notes frustrated me no end. Now you've pointed it out I can't stop staring at yours. Bring on an overseas trip (I wish).
Great stash! I especially love the first note - what an oddly drawn woman, quirky!
Great find Kylie - from wonderful, wonderful Covent Garden (worked at a market research firm there when I was a student :)) I collect all kinds of things, knowing that I'll find some creative use for them some day... you could frame these, make paper garlands, cards...
i do find them intriguing too...i also really really have to watch myself when traveling...as we have such superior (feeling) money i do tend to link these to play money a little. Hence i spend without really acknowledging the value..a bit dangerous and crazy too as i normally am very careful with money...i love the second last one with the lady in scarf..she should be sitting in a little sports car..:) so now i am intrigued as to what you may have in mind for these...hmmm
The design of these notes are lovely, and I really like the faded colours. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
I am absolutely taken by the portaits on them- What an interesting collection!
These are great. What a find! I too have lots of little collections of things all over the place, shells, stamps, coins, notes. We have a big fat envelope of notes from our travels and I love leafing through them. I come from a long line of bower birds.
Hi Kylie! Nice collection!!! There’s an old Brazilian currency – Cruzeiro, and I can tell you a little about it…This one was used from April 1990 to September 1994. This one you have was available only until Sep 1992; and this woman in the portrait is called Cecília Meireles, a very very famous Brazilian poet! I also have some like these in my own collection…very nice ;) keep it safe!
