Holiday craft

The thing I love about holiday craft is the sense of time to experiment; to try out new ideas, a new technique or skill. This holidays I've been playing with a new palette, using embroidery floss to play with colour combinations...


... on an old but much loved design. I've been wanting to make up some more embroidered brooches for a while now. Here's hoping I finish these soon ;)


I also used the holidays to play with form. I tried embroidering without any plan in mind... just going with the flow... but still structure somehow imposed itself on me and I started experimenting with colour combinations again...




My eldest daughter thinks it looks like a Pac Man stuck in bow tie land ;)



There was also a bit of crocheting... going through the motif patterns... starting again each time I found I'd somehow got it wrong. 


I'm full steam into crocheting now (I'll show you soon). I've made some significant discoveries while playing with these motifs and have been using my new-found knowledge to start a new blanket. What have you crafted this holidays? Did you discover anything new?

    I love so many things in this post!
    The black embroidered outlines, flowers, pacman bowtie land...!

    I've just started a blanket too - very basic!
    And experimenting with new soft toys.XX

    You've been busy... I've been working on another mesh gown and was making great progress until my sewing machine broke down. I might just have to do some embroidery while I wait for the machine to get fixed. Thanks for the inspiration.

    I recently picked up the hoop again too.... I am nearly finished - I just wanted to do something small. I do like the idea of free range stitching though.... it feels so daring... so reckless...could I?
    Do you read beci orpins blog? You 2 were on very similar wavelengths.

    my gosh, anything you take on is so impressive in it's results. i love the embroidery Kylie, grand job. laughed when i read your daughters description, wish i had some pinches and dashes of your amazing talent.

    AND i loved seeing your photos from tremendous mountain retreat below, looked like a ton of fun! it's neat that you said some of your family is here in Van. right now. it's been lovely weather the past few days, hope their time has been great! ♥
