Edwardian patterning

I just saw a lovely image over at Lobster and Swan of a vintage crepe chiffon top - it reminded me of the Edwardian underskirt I found at the op shop several years ago now and I got to thinking about the other pieces I have of this ilk. I love Edwardian styling - the heavily worked long skirts and layers of chiffon underskirts. The top two are pieces I bought in London many years ago. I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the shop but it was on Golbourne Road near Portobello and the designer makes them up from Edwardian patterns. It was love at first sight with absolutely no mind to the practicalities of these heavily worked creations in the hot Australian climate ;) There has been the odd occasion when I have got to wear them and friends have borrowed them for special events as well... They do take up a lot of space but I could never throw them out. This is why I can't do a wardrobe overhaul - I may only wear ten percent of it all but the majority is vintage finds or special pieces that I treasure. Tell me I'm not the only one... do you have a mini-museum in your wardrobe? A shrine of the adored un-worn (or in the case of my 1950s minute-waist dress collection, the un-wearable) ??

Hear this loud, hear this clear: YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE.

I can't even close my wardrobe door. Plus I'm utterly convinced that your wardrobe issues are for a far worthier cause.

I so had the mini museum, but it was starting to spill out of my wardrobe into any vessel that could contain it and things were all starting to smell op shoppy and stale. So, I only keep what I wear now and everything else went back into circulation for others to enjoy.

They look amazing! I tried to reduce my wardrobe bulk by buying those vaccuum bags to compress all the treasures, but surprise...they don't work. They all seemed to lose vaccuumness at the same time and my doors burst open. xxNick

How fabulous it would have been to live in that era in the right family! :)

We must be twins seperated at birth-I have the same issues. Please share more of your treasures! I plan on sharing mine -even the things that do not fit: most of them I am afraid! How could you not want to enjoy the details on a regular basis? If it gives you pleasure, I think it is worth keeping.

I think that we love clothes from all eras and that is why it is so hard to get rid of stuff -I still love most of the clothes I have bought, vintage or new from the last 30 years - and I regret items from years ago that I no longer own - especially with a teenager in the house and the 80's revival!!!

The top photos are divine Kylie. Looks a beautiful skirt. I've always been a second-hand OP shop girl, I love mixing old with new and have accumulated loads of stuff over the years.I've given quite alot away but I'll never part with my gran's 1940s dresses and jackets which fit me perfectly.
