Hello Orange!

I started noticing something was going on with these... Hard to miss really ;)

... and then I saw that quite a few bits of orange were popping up around here...

Creative endeavours have been leaning towards the orange too...

There was no plan but somehow my world has slowly been turning orange :)

I've been working on a new artwork too (with a bit of orange!). The colours haven't
scanned well I'm afraid - it's actually more vibrant than this. Feels good to be painting
and drawing again.

How's your week been?

So Many Greens :)

I'm making a cushion for someone who loves green.
Lime green, kelly green, aqua green, teal, olive green...
There are so many shades to choose from.

So, I decided not to discriminate and instead find a way
to showcase all the greens...

I've been looking at this combination for days and have
finally crocheted them together. Still looking at it, though,
and deciding whether I like it or not...

Is perfectionism a nice word for incredibly indecisive? ;)

:)

Making me smile today... a little scene I snapped in my home.

The Mr has recently become obsessed with playing the banjo
and I'm surprised at how much I love it.

These flowers are from a vine - I have no idea what they're called.

They're actually the neighbour's and I pinched them from our
shared fence for a dinner party on Friday night.

What's making you smile today?

Inspiration: Humlegården Apartment

I found these images the day I finished my new design for the triangle cushions.
It was such a Wow! Snap! moment. It's given me fresh inspiration to do more...
and this green is definitely calling my name ;)

So where is this amazing place? It's the Humlegården Apartment, developed
by Tham & Videgård Arkitekter in a traditional Art Nouveau apartment in Stockholm.

The oversized multicoloured parquet floors and walls are so visually striking,
it makes me happy just looking at it :)

As much as I love it I have to admit that I find some of the rooms a tad overbearing.
Perhaps these are the architect's show photos and there are real people living
there now with real things...?

... and perhaps a few books on those shelves ;)

It's an exciting idea, though, don't you think?

I found this on a very inspirational blog, Plenty of Colour
via another fabulous blog, elisabeth andrée.

Our Creative Spaces - Repeat Patterns

I've been trying to be more pattern-organised in my creative space this week...
and this is what I've come up with.

My process with composing the crocheted triangle cushions is so erratic,
so haphazard... I'll crochet up the triangles I think I'd like and then only
once I see them next to each other do I realise whether they'll 'work' or not.
Consequently, I have a lot of spare triangles in the 'didn't work' pile.

So, I've gone back to this wonderful book and have been
playing with pattern making.

It's been a fabulous help with figuring out more complex forms.

My own triangle grid has helped me compose colour combinations on the
computer so I can get a better idea of whether they'll work...

... and I can calculate how many triangles I'll need ahead of time
so there's less time wastage.

This is all probably sounding incredibly anal, but it helps me feel more
productive and less like a meandering ninny ;)

More creative spaces can be found right here.

Inspiration: Nuria Mora

Everywhere I look at the moment, I'm obsessed with colour combinations. So, no prizes for guessing why I did a complete tumble turn when I saw these lovelies.

Spanish-born Nuria Mora is a street artist who works internationally, wowing urban landscapes with an explosion of colour and form.

See more of her work on her website.

Inspiration: Nanimarquina Rainbows

We ran away for the long weekend to our mountain retreat. Lots of walks in the rainforest and cups of tea by the fire. It was so cold and rained a lot... just delicious :)

We saw so many rainbows and double rainbows... it felt like being in a fairtytale. With all the crocheting I was doing I started to get quite inspired by the rainbow palette.

Thinking about the very inspiring Digit Rugs designed by Cristian Zuzunaga for Nanimarquina in Spain.... aren't they stunning?

I'm thinking the next round of crocheted triangles will have very little white in them...
I'm going to try a pure explosion of colour for the senses.

I'm quite partial to this sumptuous combination too...
stay tuned for some magenta and yellow crocheted triangle cushions ;)

Find out more about Nanimarquina here.

More Doodles

I've been having fun with my pens. I feel so much better + life is feeling a lot more doodley :) Thinking about how I can translate these ideas to fabric now. Happy Monday!

Yellow

Doodling again. I found a piece of art paper with some washes on it that I must have done ages ago. So, I started doodling designs on it. I love the way the wash dictates the shapes, and yes, I feel the need for some happy yellow today. Hope it's a good day for everyone :)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
Best wishes for a wonderful year ahead.

I've been doodling again (I find it's a great remedy to late night partying!) It clears my mind and playing with colour and combinations is a pure sensory experience... so far this year has been great fun :) Have a wonderful day off everyone!

Doodling again...

I've been doodling again. There are bits of this design that I really like... bits that I might use for a new fabric design. For now, the vivid green with the black and white makes me smile :)

A little bit of white...

I've been trying to work out why I wasn't entirely happy with my aqua version of this block print... and then it came to me. Perhaps a little bit of white is just what it needs... what do you think? Still working away on it. I've cut up the fabric into bag panels. Hopefully I'll stop fussing and have one made up for My Creative Space on Thursday :)

My Creative Space - colour block

I'm playing along with Kirsty's Creative Space meme today. Visit Kootoyoo to see more spaces or to play along yourself.

This week has been all about printing fabric... I seem to be stuck on working out this elusive skill. Still block printing and playing with fabric designs... this time trying out different colours.

Big thanks to all the lovelies who've left comments this week - I've really appreciated all of them :)
