Sunday Stash: Fabric #5

I have a 1970s bold, graphic pattern for my Sunday Stash this week. The fabric is from a dress I bought at Portobello Markets in London a decade ago. I think the stall owner must have shortened it from its original 70s length. It used to fit me... it was my favourite going-out-dancing dress... now, I'm undecided about whether to preserve its original splendour for my daughters or alter it somehow so that I can wear it again! Speaking of 70s frocks, the very clever Katy has just made herself one from scratch - have a peek here.

You can find more Sunday Stashes here or on the Flickr group pool here.

Pretty, pretty dress- from the way it is cut I can tell it must have been lovely to dance in- the swirl...I vote keep! and you know I don't like hoarding..but this is such a pretty one and you do have daughters... of course I don't really know how to sew, so maybe there might be some clever things to do with it that I wouldn't be able to envision! But I threw out my own favorite dress and now I regret it- I had bought it from a vintage shop, it was a fifties dress and it was gorgeous- sometimes one needs to hoard a tiny bit!
Have a lovely day,
Annamaria x

Oh gorgeous fabric - what a great find at the Portobello Market (I've been there too!). I would love to get my hands on it and cut it up to use in a quilt, that would definitely preserve it in splendor for your daughters!

Regards
Rita

Oh Kylie, it is gorgeous! I remember seeing photos of my mother in beautiful dresses and skirts and being disappointed that she never kept any of them, so I am voting for keeping. How amazing would it be to see your daughters wearing it dancing in the years to come!? :)

Keep it Kylie, it's gorgeous. I agree with Christina, I love the dresses my mum used to wear in the sixties and so wish that she had kept them. Luckily, I managed to save some of my grandma's, who was a seamstress, and I have some nice forties clothes instead!

don't cut it up!
it's the best.
you'll regret it if you put scissors anywhere near it.

Gorgeous dress Kylie. I'd be torn too. Id love to wear it, but then I'd be scared of stuffing it up and then having something unwearable.

Oh my, what a fantastic dress! That is indeed a conundrum. I would lean towards preserving it, personally :)

that does look like a fabulous dress! i have to confess that i have some of my clothes from the 70's and i still love them! i gave some to one of my nieces to wear but i'm thinking about recycling some of the others. i still think they're soooo cool!
